World cup expansion
« on: October 31, 2018, 11:15:46 AM »
The expansion originally proposed by FIFA for 2026 could be implemented as early as 2022.
The European are contesting it and are not happy about it. Well it benefits the lower rank teams for the most part that are in the Concacaf region.

Here’s what they are proposing, with the CONCACAF region potentially having its number of direct slots increased from to six, while Europe will be increased from 13 to 16. Plus, the Bureau of the FIFA Council has also suggested a six-team tournament in 2025 to decide the final two spots in the World Cup.

    AFC (Asia): 8 direct slots
    CAF (Africa): 9 direct slots
CONCACAF (North & Central America): 6 direct slots
CONMEBOL (South America): 6 direct slots
    OFC (Oceanic): 1 direct slot
    UEFA (Europe): 16 direct slots

If FIFA gets its way in 2022 and implement it, the big question is  will CONCACAF gets 9 teams this time around. Since for 2022, USA, Mexico and Canada are hosting and automatic qualifiers..?

if that's the case, that will open the door for a lot of Caribbean teams to get in 2022. Stay tune!
